Let's Make a Desk Calendar!

mini desk calendars

Hi Everyone! I've taken a little bit of a break from blogging, and due to a combination of life happenings and the economy, my business has been hit hard! I've been sitting on it a bit while trying to decide what my next stage looks like. At some point, we have to decide to let some things go when they are no longer working for us. It's OK, that's part of season changes.

However, my husband and I have been making greeting cards and doing papercrafting as a hobby for about 13 years, and people have started asking me to make videos, blogs, and do kits and classes, so today is a post doing just that! We are starting with how to make these cute little calendars!

I've seen a lot online, but wanted it to be a little more stable, so I created what I thought would work, more or less, and then asked my husband to "math it" for me so that we could make more of them! Yay for mathy partners!!

Let's get crafting:

From our Burbachulous Craft Loft!

Mini Stand-Up Desk Calendar (Papercraft Instructions)

Supplies

  • Cardstock: 10 ½" × 3 ½" (calendar base)

  • Cardstock: 3" × 2 ½" (support insert)

  • Small tear-off calendars (3" × 2 ¼")

  • Decorative paper (3" × 2 ¼", depending on desired look)

  • Scoring tool

  • Glue

  • Decorative stamps, patterned paper, embellishments (optional)

Step 1: Prepare the Calendar Base

  1. Start with the 10 ½" × 3 ½" cardstock.

  2. Score at 5 ¼" (this is the center).

  3. Score again at 2 1/2" from each end. This marks the top and bottom halves while also making a steady base.

  4. Fold the base in half at the 5 ¼" score line.

  5. Glue only the top half down to the nearest score line—this forms the angled front of the calendar.

Step 2: Make the Support Insert

  1. Take the 3" × 2 ½" cardstock piece.

  2. Score at 1 1/2" from the long side.

  3. Score ½" from each end- long side (these will become the glue tabs).

  4. Fold the insert in half on the 1 1/2" score line.

  5. Fold the end tabs upward. (opposite direction)

Step 3: Attach the Insert

  1. Open the folded calendar base, bottom half.

  2. Glue the tabs of the insert to the inside bottom area of the calendar base. edges facing up and the center point facing up. It will look like a W.

  3. Position it slightly above the very bottom edge—this helps the calendar stand more firmly.

Step 4: Decorate

  1. Add decorative paper to the front top panel

    • 3" × 2 1/4"

  2. Or stamp, embellish, or add any decorative touches you like.

Step 5: Add the Calendar

  1. Attach your small tear-off calendar (3" × 2 ¼") to the bottom half. Centered.

    • These can be purchased online. I bought mine from Taylored Expressions.

Finished Project

You now have a mini, stand-up desk calendar that folds flat but stands securely when displayed—perfect for gifts, craft fairs, or your own desk!
