Healthy Living: Houseplants

Even If you have a brown thumb!

My husband I believe in living a green life and supporting and promoting our environment, it is one of the things that drew us to being part of shaklee, a chance to get more involved in the environment. We use reusable containers, beeswax wraps, we reduce and reuse before we recycle and we love nature, and now we have lush beautiful plants inside, helping us live a healthier life.

A few years ago I decided to buy a few plants and thought "Meh...for a few weeks or month they will be nice" and then they lived!!! Whhaaaatt????!!! And continued to live!! Since then I've learned to repot, sort of...fertilize, sort of....and they keep living! Wow!!! I did NOT have a green thumb.

Then I bought more and they lived too!! Now it's a thing!! Maybe my brown thumb is turning green! It's my color you know!

Houseplants are a great addition to your healthy living lifestyle.

Why bother? Why have house plants?

  • Studies show house plants improve your mood, and while we are all still stuck inside we could probably use it!

  • Plants release moisture vapor which can increase humidity in dry rooms or houses

  • Plants can remove up to 87% of harmful VOCs in the air (to learn more about VOC's check out my husband's awesome guest post)

  • Decreases fatigue

  • Keeps you healthier

  • Helps you heal faster

  • Improves air quality

  • Reduce stress

  • Improve focus

  • May boost your productivity

Start with hard to kill plants like these.

Hard to Kill Plants

  • Snake Plant

  • Aloe

  • Spider Plant

  • Dragon Tree

  • Pothos

  • Chinese Evergreen

  • Bromeliads

  • Jade Plant

  • Moth Orchid

  • Antherium

Low Light Plants

This is our problem. We don't have many spaces with direct sunlight.

  • Money Tree

  • Bamboo Palm

  • Bromeliad

  • Philodendron Heart Leaf

  • Pony Tail Palm

  • Prayer Plant

  • Devil's Ivy

  • Bird's Nest Fern

I started with a few plants I found at Ikea, after doing my "hard to kill" research and we now have 17 plants throughout our home. With more to come! See, even with a brown thumb you can have houseplants!!

We have a few orchids, an anthurium, some philodendrons, a dragon tree, and a few other fun plants!

Breathe well!
